Green Project Incubation

Prior to exploring new projects, it is necessary to understand a community, their current situation and needs.  Our process, in partnership with local groups like a Chamber of Commerce, often starts with a local inventory of existing government programs, businesses, educational workshops, citizens groups and non-profits.

The outcomes of the assessment will determine both what is already available as well what the community wants more of.  It will also identify gaps….otherwise known as opportunities.

The Livability Project team has developed many programs based on community input, often as a result of mapping and stakeholder engagement. Previous and current projects, based on community need, include:

  • clean energy purchasing
  • yoga /healing center, community gathering place and green retail store
  • neighborhood solar collective
  • Pacifica Gardens, a bio-intensive farm and permaculture education center
  • a bio-diesel co-op and production facility (partner in $650,000 grant)
  • Commercial recycling program
  • Environmentally-friendly transportation; pedestrian and bike program
  • "Think Local" Campaigns
