Livability Project is a small consulting firm that provides education, outreach, planning and hands-on implementation to create strong communities and local green economies. We offer innovative tools and introduce programs for and in partnership with local businesses, government, non-profits and residents. We leverage existing products, services and programs while simultaneously incubating new ones that do not yet exist.
Kelley Rajala founded Livability Project in 2002 as a non-profit in Pacifica, California. She and her team helped individuals, communities and organizations evolve from an era of cheap natural resources to one of renewable energy and sustainable life practices. They raised awareness through documentary film screenings and speaker events; designed neighborhood Livability roadmaps; and implemented projects such as Biodiesel co-ops, energy conservation retrofits, edible community gardens, workshops and more.
Dave and Kelley joined forces in 2006 after meeting at a BALLE (www.livingecononomies.org) tradeshow. The two worked on several projects together in Sonoma County and sought to set up their first Livability Center in Sebastopol. Unable to get adequate financing, Dave returned to Montgomery County to pursue similar work in the community he was involved and had lived all his life. Livability Project became incorporated as a Maryland-based LLC.
Livability Project LLC is best known for its groundbreaking work with Bethesda Green , a green community initiative near Washington, D.C. Bethesda Green aims to sustain Bethesda’s current and future development by reducing the community’s environmental footprint, attracting environmentally-conscious consumers and promoting an environmental ethic.
