Approach
Livability Center
A Livability Center is a place, not just a building. It emphasizes the relationship of the space to its community, the community to the environment and would be dedicated to knowledge sharing, sustainable practices, community building and entrepreneurship
A center will engage individuals and organizations offering sustainable alternatives and delivering solutions to today’s challenges. Space can be allocated for a variety of uses including:
- a shared or ‘common’ space for socializing, education, community building and creating new ideas
- businesses offering green or socially responsible products and services
- promotion of civic groups and mission-aligned non-profits
- café/restaurant, healthy snacks and lounge area
- regularly changing displays such as history of community; maps: green policies and incentives: programs and activities; showcase of local businesses and community groups, special places of interest, facts, contributions from community members, etc.
- calendar of events, workshops and programs (given by members of community and national leaders)
Sections designated as ‘commons,’ may be open and available to everyone. Commons, in a community, include nature, quality of life, economy and culture. In the context of the center, they can be comprised of:
- Conference room (service fees may apply)
- Media Center/Office equipment (service fees may apply)
- Education and Events Theatre (service fees may apply)
- Resource Center
- Bathrooms, kitchen, social lounge area
